MN#12...Done!

Cheers to everyone that came tonight. Was a nice send off for the year. Currently sat in my room with some dudes from Kensington Arms who are quite the party-boys.
Our next show is on 13th January at the same venue, this time with Franz Nicolay (The Hold Steady), Dave Hause (The Loved Ones) and Jack Terricloth (The World/Inferno Friendship Society)

See you later.

Stream of the debut Ssssnakes record!

Ssssnakes are a 4 piece with 3 members of The Arteries and the mighty Pugs on bass. Jamie puts down his bass and picks up the microphone for this band whilst Miles picks up the guitar and Tim goes to drums. It's such a fun record to listen to, if you dig Descendents, Minor Threat, Dead Milkmen and just simple party music, Ssssnakes is what you'll be listening too all next year.
You can stream the record in its entirety and also pre-order the LP/Shirt aswell by clicking HERE!
We've hopefully got them playing our birthday show on 20th March with Apologies, I Have None / Bangers / Throwing Stuff (if we have any songs by then)

Merry Christmas suckas. x

MN#12 - Sometimenever pull out...

Unfortunately Sometimenever have had to pull out of the show on Tuesday due to some reasons involving members (and not the cool kind) so we're gonna keep it at 3 bands now, and now only £3. Unless you have a band in Manchester and wanna play for kicks.

Nevertheless, It's looking to be a sweet night, check out:

See you Tuesday.

GET FESTIVE. - Band Profile: Sometimenever

I saw Sometimenever on Sam Russo's birthday in Cambridge, must be two years ago nearly, and thought they were pretty decent. Then heard very little about them until Adam (vocals) drove Sam to a show in Peterborough and then filmed everyone naked running down a street. Then he gave me their latest album "Father Hope" to review and I've listened to it constantly since then.

They're a post-hardcore punk band in my eyes taking obvious influence from the likes of At The Drive-In, Fugazi and Refused. One of my favourite things about STN are the fact that they do all that, and still remain very unique and british. None of that pretend American bullshit.

Two of their songs are on the free mixtape so have a listen and see what I'm on about.

MN#12 - CHRISTMAS PARTY!

So we've got one more gig left this year before 2011 kicks off and Manchester is swamped with the best bands in the world. Again. Our Christmas Party is on Tuesday 21st December at the usual place (The Tiger Lounge) and we've got 4 bands, maybe a 5th on the night to play!
Headlining is our boys in Our Time Down Here who's last show we were meant to do got cancelled so they're back with avengence. Touring with Worcester's Fights and Fires and also Sometimenever are playing - love those guys. Local support from Cowards! Might be adding another band on the night!

Next year Manchester will see: Iron Chic, Dear Landlord, Arms Aloft, Dave Hause (The Loved Ones), Sweet Empire, Bearings, End Of A Year, The State Lottery, Franz Nicolay (The Hold Steady), Apologies I Have None, Bangers, Ssssnakes, The Arteries, Above Them, Caves and more...
See you on the 21st.

VIDEO: Sam Russo - Cold Feet

Sam Russo played a show in London the other day and someone managed to film one of his new songs that he's got. It's called "Cold Feet" and obviously, it's a banger. Have a listen, hopefully we'll have him play for us in January with some BIG names. More on that later though, now watch...

Glass Avalanche.

Oh my God. First of all massive apologies to Martin from Glass Avalanche for being slow and distracted as ever.
He sent me (in the Royal Mail post) their self titled debut EP. And up till now, I've still failed to review it or even mention those dudes, that is bad because Glass Avalanche, as it turns out, are fucking rad.
Their four track EP opens with some sweet lead guitar and then explodes into a fucking great rhythm that will have you air drumming along. With the vocals added to the mix giving hints of Strung Out and Rise Against I regret not having reviewed this earlier. Truth be told, I listened to this EP from the moment I got it, for the next month or so, till the day I managed to lose it.
However! All the songs are available on Spotify! So just search Glass Avalanche on Spotify (as if you don't have it) and listen immediately.
The artwork for the release is really neat too, a nicely put together CD and if you read the Pacer review, I like well put together physical releases! Martin has done well on this.

All in all, this is a really good EP with 4 songs all very catchy and very fucking enjoyable. These guys have played with a fair few great bands recently like Dear Landlord, No Use For A Name and Lagwagon. Listen to track 2 "Bloodshot Eyes" and tell me that isn't catchy.
Definitely gonna have these guys over in 2011 so make sure you learn the words, and come and support them.

Refuse To Lose - 2nd Birthday Party!

If you live in Manchester and enjoy punk/indie/hardcore/alternative music then I assume you'll be aware of the Refuse To Lose clubnight that happens on the first Saturday of every month?

Well this months (today!) will mark the 2nd anniversary of this amazing clubnight starting up, and therefore if you get down before 11pm it's only £2 in (£3 after). It's always always a great night, double spirits are £2 with a student card and it's pretty cheap anyway. I think my favourite night out in Manchester was the first time I ever went to RTL where I ended up in a Casino and then really hurting my hand. Good times. Facebook event is here, but you don't need that, you just need to be at THE RETRO BAR tonight anytime after 10pm but before 11pm if you want to save a quid. Cool tingz!

Expect to hear: A Wilhelm Scream, Against Me!, Algernon Cadwallader, Alkaline Trio, The Anniversary, As Friends Rust, The Ataris, Avail, Bad Religion, Ben Folds Five, Black Eyes, Blink 182, Blood Brothers, Bouncing Souls, Braid, Brand New, Cap'n Jazz, Chillerton, Dananananaykroyd, The Dauntless Elite, Death Cab For Cutie, Descendants, Dillinger Four, The Dismemberment Plan, The Down And Outs, The Draft, The Ergs!, Fugazi, The Get Up Kids, Gunmoll, Hot Water Music, Jawbreaker, Jets To Brazil, Jimmy Eat World, Kid Dynamite, Lagwagon, Latterman, The Lawrence Arms, Leatherface, Lemuria, Lifetime, The Loved Ones, Millencolin, New End Original, New Found Glory, No Trigger, No Use For A Name, NOFX, None More Black, North Lincoln, Pavement, Pennywise, Piebald, Planes Mistaken For Stars, Polar Bear Club, The Postal Service, Pretty Girls Make Graves, The Promise Ring, Propaghandi, Q And Not U, Rainer Maria, Rise Against, Samiam, Saves The Day, Screeching Weasel, Small Brown Bike, The Steal, Strike Anywhere, Texas Is The Reason, The Thermals, The Weakerthans, Weezer, You Me and the Atom Bomb, Young Livers... and more!

Feature: Kind of Like Records.. (Captain, We're Sinking/Mixtapes/Direct Hit!...)

Kind of Like Records is a record label based in Brooklyn, New York. Lisa is a lovely girl who runs it and recently she sent me an email with some Captain, We're Sinking songs to let me know of their existence.
Release #1
The songs were from Captain We're Sinking's 7" called "It's a Trap" I already own this record, and it's possibly one of the best 7" I've come across. 4 incredible songs, the last track "Gunner Merring will have his revenge" is one of the most passionate and anthemic songs I've heard for a long time.
You can download the mp3's from the 7" over at IfYouMakeIt for free.
Captain, We're Sinking fun trivia: Bobby (Vocals and Guitar) is the brother of Greg from our new best friends The Menzingers. Good gene pool. You can also hear the 2 unrealsed songs by C,WS which will feature on their upcoming split with Timeshares here. And to top it all off, you can hear 3 other unreleased songs that will be coming out on a 7" sometime in the future on Evil Weevil Records here.

Release #2
The second release is a split between Direct Hit! and Mixtapes. I've been into Mixtapes for a good while now and if you're into soft, lovely female/male shared vocal songs, you'll love it. They're very good. Direct Hit! I heard for the first time today and Wow. Wish I hadn't slept on that!
Lisa wrote a little bio about the split:
Over the last decade, the midwest has proved its pop punk roots. What began with Dillinger Four has spread across the great plains with bands like The Dopamines, Off With Their Heads, and The Copyrights carrying the torch. The latest installments, Mixtapes and Direct Hit! have both added a fresh perspective to pop punk past. Cincinnati's Mixtapes take a gentler approach, writing sugary sweet sing-a-longs rich with female/male vocals and lyrics about break ups, make ups, and everything in between. On the other hand, Milwaukee's Direct Hit! charge full speed ahead, playing party punk tunes about space, comics, and getting pumped about life (see their mantra "Fuck you, get pumped!"). Though the split only contains four songs (two originals, two covers), it's a great intro into a hopeful future for midwestern pop punk to come!

You can order the split directly from the KOLR webstore. And for all other information check out the main website KindofLikeRecords.com

Long time, no post...

Long time no blog update from me! I've been working on a Tour Diary for the tour that I've just come off with The Menzingers and Leagues Apart, which was honestly 11 of the best days I've ever been alive. Eternally grateful to all involved, more soppy bullshit in the tour diary.

So Christmas is on it's way and we thought we'd have a Christmas Party to end the year with our 12th show. It's still got to be 100% confirmed but so far we're looking at:

TUESDAY 21st DECEMBER @ The Tiger Lounge, Cooper St, Manchester.

Doors are going to be at 7pm. Few quid in, it's our Christmas Party so we'll have some mince pies and may even dress someone up as Santa that you can sit on their lap for 2p. Joy? Joy.
